Mostly pro-JW, but a pretty scathing comment about the hypocrisy.

hey, i've pasted below, a link to an article about the jw convention in the state of oklahoma, just sent to me by a jw relative.
according to their spokeman, it's the first one to be held this year.
he is also quick to mention all the 'persecution' in russia, while staying silent on the worldwide abuse, and shunning issues (a form of persecution in itself, imo).. if anyone would like to help me add to the comments section, it'd be appreciated.
Wow! Thanks for all the info. :-)

Btw, the one comment under that article isn't mine. I'm trying to come up with something, but it's been a busy work day. I heard something about '1975' being on their agenda, but since I'm not/never been a JW, I don't have the inside scoop on it.

what if the jw org became publicly exposed as a repressive and harmful cult working to the detriment of society, the membership dropped away and the gb woke up to reality and quit .
what would happen to the worldwide property and investments of the wtbts and allied companies?
where would the money go then?
As a non-JW, and approaching this from the perspective of a shrewd CEO, or a Wall Street venture capitalist, it might actually make sense to shut it all down on a financial high-note. It wouldn't be ethical, and probably wouldn't be legal within the US, depending on where the assets ended up. But, I'm sure that the WT Society has their own version Dick Fuld (former chairman of Lehman Brothers), or Bernie Madeoff, who 'Made-off with other peoples' investments. Such a person could be calling all the shots behind the scenes. I don't think this would fall under a conspiracy theory either, since we've seen this time and time again.
The Governing Body, from what I've seen so far, don't appear intelligent enough to handle the financials of such a large real estate empire.
It wouldn't surprise me if a group of tight knit individuals who hold the org's purse strings, suddenly take their winnings and escape to an overseas tax haven. In some island/countries, such as Dominica, a passport & citizenship can be easily bought. That's just my two cents.
i didn't make this video it just showed up in my utube web page, god i love utube.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyv5lg1uh0o.
QUESTION (please)
Were these propaganda videos shown at the summer conventions??
Reason I ask is...I'm known as kind of a jazz buff, so I would LOVE to ask one of my JW friends if they've heard of Nicolas King. Then I'd show them a pic from one of his his performances and say..."I heard he was a fairly prominent JW, with a lifetime CAREER in showbiz...does he look familiar?" I'd just leave it AT THAT, and let 'em start poking around...maybe follow up a couple weeks later and gauge their reaction when I ask if they'd dug up any info on him (I'm sure that some of the younger 'sisters' would be all over that stuff).
So...convention vid? Online only? Or perhaps something shown at the Kingom Hall meetings? Just trying to estimate the likelihood of them actually having SEEN the vid, or vids. Thanks in advance.
kinda surprised this hasn't popped up on here yet.
article is just a couple days old.
it's in the small, but pretty state of vermont.

WTs actions are not the least bit surprising. What's so obvious is not that they "abhor child abuse." Words are cheap. Judging by their actions, the actually "abhor getting caught protecting pedophiles." F#ck!n£ criminal bastards. Worse than the mafia trying to dodge the feds back in the '70s.
Anyway, the author was kind enough to provide his contact info at the end of the article.
everything that is done at the midweek meeting can now be done at home.
the videos are online, the first talk is scripted, the bible highlights are scripted.
you could get the same experience by just reading and watching the material from your tablet.
I envisage that eventually they will adopt the tried and tested system of mainstream Churches. Hold the main sermon on Sunday for everyone to come and socialize, and drop midweek meetings.
At my 'mainstream Church,' which I attend quite irregularly due to my work schedule, we do have a mid-week meeting of sorts, but it's nothing like the CLAM as described here. It's more like this: spaghetti dinner (or other dish) served at about 6pm. Three dollar donation appreciated. Adults socialize while youths play pick-up basketball, or get tutoring for school work. Most of talk between adult men is about fishing, sports, cars, ect. At some point, the pastor shares info on what community programs are going on, and/or how we can volunteer. Somewhere in there, he'll share the balance sheet and give income & expenditures. Any projects that come up are held to a vote by members. Yes, there is Bible study, hymns and so forth, after the spaghetti & socializing & youth round-ball. Btw, the Bible study is more a guided discussion, than a one-way lecture. Also, it's not very scripted. So, what might start out as a discussion on the nature of Jesus, can easily go off into a tangent. It keeps things interesting, but could be annoying to someone accustomed to more structure.
That's what we do. Not saying it's the 'right' way or not, but I enjoy it. It just sounds like the JW leaders are going to have to make a stark choice, eventually: become more 'mainstream,' or whither away into some type of internet based e-religion. I'm pretty amazed that the JWs have been around so long while not contributing much (it seems to me) to the community at large. I've never seen a JW free-clinic, unless they just don't have 'em in my area.
Oh...and our Wednesday 'meetings' or get-togethers, are open to anyone in the community. I think that's true of most mainstream type churches. Is that the case with these CLAM meetings? I have JW relatives, but kind of afraid to ask (they'll want to set up a study with me). 😁
i'm thinking of printing a tract with some simple but thought-provoking questions for people to use when jw's come to their doors.
questions from christians.
bible-believing christians appreciate the moral values of jehovah’s witnesses in their communities but have several questions that somehow seem to escape us when we are caught unexpectedly at our doors.
As to the question why convert a Christian from one form of Christianity to another, there are 3 answers.
1. Cults are damaging.
2. Deaths from the blood issue
3. Shunning loved ones
True.
I feel much more at ease hanging out with my Methodist (vs JW) coworker because:
a) he's at ease with me as well (I'm not some 'worldly' barbarian).
b) the topic of conversation doesn't revolve around all things Methodist, and he's not pushing me into a 'Bible study.'
c) he probably doesn't shun his daughter for marrying a Baptist.
d) if there's a city-wide flood or other disaster, I know that his group (among others) will offer me food & shelter., Wish I could say the same thing about JWs.
JWs are a cult. Anything you can do to get the wheels turning in their individual minds is fine, as long as you don't stoop to their level and make it 'my way, or the high-way.' But, that's the problem. What you, I, or the Methodist fella might see as an open, two-way discussion about faith, a JW (in my experience) sees as a one-sided battle of the wills. They've always talked AT ME, not WITH ME. So frustrating.
hi guys,.
i stumbled upon this video while snooping around on jw.org.. lol isn't this ironic.. a video about gossip.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfqvywf-1is.

Tired of constant gossip & harassment: this man punches arrogant elder in the face!
Well...it could happen (and should, IMO).
